This just in from Sportsnet.ca:

Sportsnet has learned Sean Avery has shifted his disturber role to the Dallas Stars, signing a $16-million, 4-year deal. Avery earned $1.9 million with the New York Rangers this past season in which he had 15 goals and 18 assists in 57 games. His season was cut short when he suffered a lacerated spleen in the team’s playoff series loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Sports Network had speculated yesterday that Avery was close to signing a multi-year deal with the Dallas Stars and the deal is now official. A great move for the consistent Stars, who already have a team packed with grit and scoring. Avery lived with GM Brett Hull when they both played together for Detroit back in 2002 and the two have kept in close contact ever since. Avery will get every opportunity to refine his game playing under savvy Coach Dave Tippett.
