Saturday Headlines: Jacob Trouba and the Bruins

For the third week in a row the Jets embattled defenceman (and last RFA standing) has been a topic during the HNIC Saturday Headlines segment.

Of all the teams that are mentioned as possible fits for Jacob Trouba the Boston Bruins are constantly being referenced.  Remember they were rumoured to be the team that was going to present Trouba with an offer sheet at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo.  While that never materialized they have been consistently discussed as a potential landing spot for the Michigan based blueliner who remains out of the Jets lineup.

Elliotte Friedman mentioned that Bruins centre Ryan Spooner may be out of favour in Boston which then had the panel wondering aloud if Jacob Trouba could be going back the other way if Winnipeg was interested.  Of course the Jets need is on the defensive side of things to which Nick Kypreos injected this thought:

“I heard his name amongst a few people in the inner circles, that might end up in Winnipeg if somehow Boston can get Trouba out of there.  But the other pieces that might be involved with Spooner, which includes Brandon Carlo who’s a second round pick in 2015, he’s really turned heads for a blue line that doesn’t look good outside of him and Chara as partners, boy oh boy he’s really made people notice him, including in Winnipeg. But Carlo, Spooner and a first rounder, way too rich for a guy like Trouba.”

For those wondering about the Bruins mentioned by the panel here is some basic info (via HockeyDB):

Ryan Spooner (2nd round in 2010):  Left shooting centre.  Finished with 13 goals and 36 assists for 49 points in 80 games with Boston last year.  He makes $950,000.00 this year and will be an RFA next season.

Brandon Carlo (2nd round in 2015):  Right shooting defenceman.  The 6’5″ American defenceman played with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL finishing with five goals and 22 assists for 27 points in 52 games.  He makes $789,167.00 for the next three years on his ELC.

So there you go.  More Trouba talk.  Is it December 1st yet?
