From Rick Sadowski of the Rocky Mountain News:

“It was just a frustrating year, and also with the injury, with the rehab, I was mentally tired. At that point I was almost ready to just move on and spend time with my family. It wasn’t a physical thing. I was drained, drained from last year. I’m actually kind of glad I took a longer time to relax this summer. At the end of the day, that’s probably going to benefit me. it took me a longer time just to refresh and get away from everything.

Sakic said he started to train hard in July just to see if he could do it again.

“Around the middle part of August I really had that feeling. I still wanted to hold off for another week or so to make sure I was making the right decision. “

We are glad Sakic took the extra time too because it’ll be nice to see him play at least one more season.
