From Luke Decock of the News & Observer:

Restricted free agent Tuomo Ruutu accepted his qualifying offer and is now under contract for this season at $2.25 million.

This is not an unexpected development; the Canes and Ruutu were in negotiations over a long-term deal that in all likeliehood would have saved the Canes some money this season, but the path of least resistance for both sides was for Ruutu to accept his QO and worry about the rest down the road.

Read the short entry here.

Ruutu and Andrew Ladd were traded for each other at the deadline last season and now both have signed contracts within a day of one another. Both the Blackhawks and Hurricanes are hoping they can get these two players, each of whom has a fair amount of potential, back on track.
