As expected, Rob Murray, assistant coach the past five seasons in Providence (AHL), today was promoted to the Baby B’s top job, replacing Scott Gordon, who last week was named to take over the New York Islanders bench.
Murray, 41, came to Providence as Gordon’s assistant in 2003 and helped shaped the Baby B’s into perennial playoff contenders, compiling a record of 221-141-20-27. Last season, the Gordon-Murray-led Bruins finished with the AHL’s best regular-season mark (55-18-3) prior to bowing out to Portland in the Calder Cup playoffs.

If Murray can do as good of a job as his predecssor, I am sure he won’t have any problems getting a coaching job in the pros.
