Elliotte Friedman reported that Jets defencemen Tobias Enstrom has agreed to waive his NMC:
“Word is Tobias Enstrom has done WIN a huge favour, agreed to waive his NMC to help the Jets with the expansion draft.”
This doesn’t mean that Enstrom will get selected but it does ensure that the Jets can protect both Matthieu Perreault and Adam Lowry in the 7-3-1 scenario which they likely couldn’t have done if Enstrom hadn’t waived. Add in Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and you’ve got the other Jets forwards on that protected list I suspect.
The team has to protect Dustin Byfuglien (NMC) and can now have Jacob Trouba and Tyler Myers round out their protected backend under 7-3-1. I suspect you can add Joel Armia and Andrew Copp to the Jets forward list which would expose Shawn Matthias and Marko Dano. Not that it needs mention but Connor Hellebuyck will obviously be the goalie Winnipeg protects. Of course all the speculation will end Sunday at 9 am CT.
Friedman added a quote from Enstrom’s agent Kalle Boden that indicated:
“Enstrom has waived his no-move as a favour to the Jets organization. He loves Winnipeg and the Jets and wants to stay. He thinks that the Jets has a bright future and wants to be a part of future suceess. Enstrom absolutely doesn’t want to go to Vegas!!”
Sean Reynolds also of Sportsnet added this:
“Jets asked Enstrom to waive NMC a few wks after season. Tobi agreed to waive soon after. Papers signed roughly 3 wks ago. Well-kept secret.”
