According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, Sami Niku has a new deal as another member of the Class of 2015 has signed a two-year deal, worth $725k AAV ($700k/$750k). Update: The Jets have now confirmed the deal.
Niku had injury problems last season but he is healthy now and looking forward to the upcoming 2020- 21 NHL season (whenever it starts). The smooth-skating defenceman was just the second rookie to ever win the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s outstanding defenceman in 2017-18.
Niku was limited to 18 games with the Moose last season and just 17 games with the Jets but because he is no longer waiver exempt and with the Jets being close to the cap ceiling he should get an opportunity to play this season.
