Veteran forward Shane Willis has been invited to training camp on a tryout basis. His best year was 2000-01, when he had 20-24-44 with the Carolina Hurricanes. That was a long time ago. How long? The Blue Jackets’ leading scorers that season were Geoff Sanderson, Espen Knutsen and Steve Heinze.

Willis and another camp tryout invitee, defenseman Richard Matvichuk, are both reaches to make the Blue Jackets’ roster. If they do, it’s probably a sign of very bad things to come in the 2008-09 season.

I really don’t see Willis making the roster, but it doesn’t cost the Jackets anything to try.  More importantly, I’m still wondering if Willis ever found his stick after that Scott Stevens hit in the playoffs years back.  In fact, I am wondering enough to include the clip (number 6 on the top 10 countdown) here:
