Moore, a defenseman playing for the Chicago Steel of the USHL and committed to Colorado College, has been profiled before on Prospect Pulse. The smooth skating Moore plays an intelligent game and can be found on the ice in all situations. Though not any one skill stands out in my mind, he still has a load of potential in that he does everything well. Playing big minutes for a deep Chicago defensive corps, Moore’s game isn’t over physical but he is quick and always seems to be in position. In that one regard, he reminds Illegal Curve a little bit of Taylor Chorney.
The left shooting defenseman, who weighs in at 195 and stands 6’3, put up a respectable 15 points last year in his rookie season. That total should increase this year despite the other options Chicago has on defense, including Detroit draft pick Max NiCastro. Moore saw ample time on the PP (playing the QB role, where he was more of a puck distributer than a shooter) at the Fall Classic and took a regular shift at evens. He was on the 2nd unit PK and was likely 2nd in total ice time behind NiCastro (I wasn’t closely keeping track). Given his size and all around skills, watch for Moore to go in the first three rounds of next spring’s NHL Entry Draft.
