OTB: Panthers promise not looking so “promising”

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

• Andrew Ebbett is getting more confidence in Anaheim.  They hope he can be what they thought they were going to get from Brendan Morrison.
• Stephane Yelle is going to be back in the lineup tonight for Boston.  His veteran presence will only help the struggling Bruins.
• The Sabres don’t want to go into the third period tied.  This team has to show some signs of life soon.
• Both Todd Bertuzzi and Rene Bourque took the ice for the Flames today.  Not very close to returning, but definitely good signs.
• No Paul Stastny (foot) tonight for the Avs.  He can’t stay healthy.
• Are the Stars done?  Seems like it is over for the Stars this year, in a season that has been a disaster from the outset.
• Dave Staples examines the Oilers’ chances at making the playoffs.  If they make it, they aren’t winning three games, never mind a round.
• What if the Panthers don’t make the playoffs and have to follow through on the organization’s promise?  Florida is on the verge of some tough, tough times.
• A look at the Senators’ defense situation for next season.  By all accounts, Karlsson is that good.
• Looks like Simeon Varlmalov will start tonight for the Capitals.  Could he possibly be a playoff key?
