OTB: Habs claim Metropolit, Rocky Mountain News says goodbye and Ossi Vaananen claimed by Canucks

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • Ryan Whitney is pumped to be playing with Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger.  Let’s see how long that lasts!
  • The Habs have claimed Glen Metropolit off waivers.  I like this move for Montreal.  Metropolit was great for Boston last season, but the Flyers had too much depth up front for him to make a dent with that organization.  He will provide some nice depth on the fourth line for the Habs and has pretty good hands to boot.  Considering all it cost them was money, I like this move by Gainey and Company.
  • Adrian Dater comments on the Rocky Mountain News closing its doors.  Rick Sadowski will be missed on the Avalanche beat.
  • Kings lines from practice today.  I enjoy watching this team play.  The youth and talent combination makes for an exciting mix.
  • More information on Metropolit to the Habs.  See above.
  • Martin Gerber has cleared waiversSo much for the Senators getting a salary break.
  • Martin Brodeur will start tomorrow night for the Devils. Get used to reading this.
  • Some Sean Avery informationRangers have to be the only suitor.
  • Sidney Crosby (groin) won’t play tonight against the Hawks.  Kunitz will have to wait.
  • The Canucks have claimed Ossi Vaananen off waivers from Philadelphia.  Again, this costs the Canucks nothing.  Vaananen has no offensive game but can play solid stay-at-home defense and adds a big body to the back-end in Vancouver.
