On the Beat: Scott Gomez the comedian

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • The Ducks will not have one AHL affiliate next season, instead the team will have its prospects playing on multiple teams.  This is not ideal for an organization, as it doesn’t allow for the team’s youngsters to develop as much chemistry as they would if they all played together.  Additionally, the system changes from the AHL to NHL may also cause a slight problem/adjustment period.
  • Long-time Bruins winger P.J. Axelsson has signed in SwedenHe was always one of my favorites.  You could slot him on a scoring line, a checking line or anywhere and he’d just do his job.  He knew his limitations and his strengths and stuck to them quite well.  The Bruins will miss his services.
  • Scott Gomez doesn’t make “too much money” when comparing his salary to Howie Mandel.  Funny piece.
  • In contrast to last season, the Bolts actually have too many defensemen signed for 2009/10.  After last year’s debacle on the blue line, you can’t have too many defensemen if you are Tampa Bay.
