On the Beat: No truth to Nathan Horton rumors, why Vincent Lecavalier has been struggling and Brad Richards out tonight

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • The Ducks’ Bobby Ryan is a restricted free agent after this season but contract talks have not progressed much yet.  Bob Murray will make Ryan prove his worth and that’s probably the way Ryan wants it anyways.
  • Chris Vivlamore documents his time in Elmira, Ontario to honor Dan Snyder.  Very good read
  • With the trade of Chuck Kobasew and injury to Milan Lucic, here is how the Bruins lines may lookNot the deep team they were two weeks ago, but I have to say I think highly of call-up Brad Marchand.  His speed and work ethic should fit well on the Bruins.
  • If Thomas Vanek doesn’t play this Wednesday, he will almost assuredly play this upcoming Saturday.  Lucky for Buffalo that the sniper’s injury was not as bad as first reported.  This Buffalo team needs him if they want to challenge for the Northeast Division crown, as he is easily their best scorer.
  • Here are the Flames’ lines for tomorrow night’s game.  With Adam Pardy and Steffan Kronwall on the outside looking in, the Flames’ defense has become a bit more mobile.
  • The Blackhawks claimed Andrew Ebbett which means the AHL will be home to Jack Skille for a little bit.  A player like Ebbett is certainly worth taking a flier on–especially when it is essentially free.
  • Brad Richards (groin) will not suit up tonight for Dallas.  He has been terrific, so the Stars better be cautious with that injury.
  • Rick Tocchet wants Vincent Lecavalier and Alex Tanguay to play a more north-south gameThe line change should help Lecavalier, as anyone who plays with Martin St. Louis has to be super intense to keep up.
  • Panthers GM Randy Sexton has shot down any Nathan Horton rumors.  Nothing like made up rumors to get the mill going.
  • Stephen Valiquette starts tonight for NYR against the Sharks.  They are getting Henrik Lundqvist some rest against a Western Conference opponent.
  • The Capitals actually don’t mind the schedule break with all their injuries.  Have to admit, not a fan of this early season schedule.
