On strength of a Jeff Malott hat trick the Manitoba Moose win fourth straight game

After being undefeated for almost two months the Admirals have lost three straight coming into this game while Manitoba had won three straight and was in desperate needs of two points.

Lineup news:

Couple of changes for the Moose. Nicholas Jones came in for Carson Golder up front. On the backend Dmitry Kuzmin who was recently recalled came in for Simon Kubicek. Thomas Milic got the net after Collin Delia had the goal last game.

Moose lineup:

Malott – Lambert – AJF
Suess – Toninato – Chibrikov
Viel – Reichel – Ford
Torgersson – Nikkanen – Jones

Capobianco – Barteaux
Heinola – Lundmark
Sautner – Kuzmin

Milic
Delia

Notable:

Moose didn’t get off to a great start being outshot 5-0 by the Admirals but that doesn’t matter when you score first (and second). Jeff Malott opens the scoring (for second consecutive game) to make it 1-0 for Manitoba.

And then 32 seconds later Jets prospect Brad Lambert makes it 2-0 as he finishes off a nice no-look pass by AJF by ripping a shot upstairs on Yaroslav Askarov.

After giving up two goals (one late in the 1st and another midway through the middle frame), Jeff Malott got his second of the game to give the Moose a 3-2 lead over the Admirals.

Admirals took their first lead of the game early in the 3rd period as the puck rolls up, over and behind Moose goalie Thomas Milic.

First career hat trick alert: Jeff Malott got his third of the night to tie the game 4-4 on the power play. His heater continues as he’s got six goals in his last five games.

It looked like AJF scored a late power play marker to make it 5-4 for the Moose but the AHL said it was Jeffrey Viel got it. I still think it was the Swedish winger’s goal but I am not sure anyone on Manitoba is gonna complain because it gave them a lead late in the final frame.

With the win the Moose are going streaking as they pick up their fourth straight victory defeating the Admirals 5-4 which allows them to put some distance between themselves and Chicago/Iowa.
