Whatever anyone thinks of the merit of Oilers GM Kevin Lowe’s bold moves these past few days — as well as his ongoing pursuit of free agent Marian Hossa — it’s evident that Lowe has a bigger picture in mind as he proceeds, and that picture is of a new downtown arena in Edmonton, the best rink in the NHL, as new owner Daryl Katz envisions it.

Staples brings up some very good points. The main one being: Would all of this Oilers activity be taking place if there was no desire to have a new arena? It is a good question and Staples makes a strong argument that that is indeed the case.
