Nightly Hockey Hits: Coyotes face big attendance test, Oilers and Leafs almost swapped cities, more on the Quebec Nordiques possibility, Isles fans should be wary of Tavares “Daigle-esque” start.

Some news and notes covering the latest hockey news from across the blogs:

  • Hockey or Die:  Quebec Nordiques redux.  Some good research into the reasons why the NHL didn’t work previously and what it would take to get it going again.
  • Slam Sports:  Pocklington: Oilers, Leafs almost swapped cities.  That’s some pretty crazy stuff.  Pocklington is right though, he would have made a fortune.
  • CBC:  Coyotes face big attendance test.  The on ice product seems good, tickets are cheap but the question is will Phoenix fans drive out to Glendale to see them play?
  • The Hockey News:  Maple Leafs search for ways to end ‘depressing’ start to new NHL season.  If they need some tips, perhaps they should read the next blog post!
  • Frozen Leafs:  Penatly killing and goaltending 101.  Leafs need to get back to basics.
  • Black Aces:  Same story, different night.  With a balanced attack, fans in Ottawa are cheering and thankfully this game was sold out, unlike the home opener.
  • The H does NOT stand for Habs:  Bracing for badness.  Is the term “success” in the case of the Habs actually a new word coined from the phrase “sucks to excess.”  Here is a top 10 list that suggests it does.
  • Die by the Blade:  Crunching numbers, Sabres limit opportunities.  Buffalo has to play this way to win.
  • Lightning Strikes:  Niittymaki makes second straight start.  Coach Tocchet is going to ride his hot goalie.
  • Ted’s Take:  Yuck.  Caps owner offers his thoughts after his team losses to the Wings.
  • Puck Daddy:  Sedin twins tampering case closed, but question remain.  While the questions may remain, good luck getting any answers
  • Cult of Hockey:  Quinn crusty commandos step up against Montreal.  Now that is some serious truculence.
  • Puck Rakers:  Day of rest.  All things Blue Jackets.
  • Lowetide:  Chorney callup?  Doesn’t sound like he will get big playing time with the Oilers.
  • Working the Corners:  Frazer McLaren heading to Worcester — and Nichol may be moving up on the depth chart.  The Sharks are rolling after a bumpy start.
  • Dobber Hockey: With a bang or a whimper.   Some players you can expect to see in the top of scoring at the end of the season.
  • Greatest Hockey Legends:  Sunday slapshots.  Some interesting thoughts, especially that Isles super rookie is off to a similar start to the former Ottawa first overall pick.
  • NHL Fanhouse:  The biting epidemic must be stopped.  No excuse for biting in hockey.

Working hard on a daily basis to provide the latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news for our readers and listeners. I also appear on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show every Saturday on our YouTube channel as well as the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show after every single Jets game. And I occasionally jump in the play-by-play booth at Canada Life to provide colour analysis during Manitoba Moose games.
