Then Elliotte Friedman reported that talks were intensifying for the Hurricanes to send Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars. As I said on twitter imagine that first round series between Colorado and Dallas. Of course it’s worth noting as we head to bed that it isn’t a done deal. Will be interesting to see how the Jets pivot with their two biggest rivals loading up for the stretch drive/playoffs.
Friday:
6:45 AM – Darren Dreger of TSN is reporting the following:
“There is no deal between Dallas and Carolina for Mikko Rantanen. It appears Carolina may have to go back to the drawing board. Doesn’t mean a deal/extension with Dallas can’t materialize, but it’s not there as of now.”
This morning on Sportsnet 650 Elliotte Friedman said:
“I don’t care what anyone says, there’s a trade. They have a trade done.” but that it’s basically contingent on an extension getting done.
9 AM – Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was on TSN to talk about his team.
10 AM – Kevin Weekes and Pierre Lebrun report that Josh Norris and Jacob Bernard-Docker are heading to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Dylan Cozens. A swap of two young centres on long-term contracts that have struggled in their current situations.
10:20 AM – Chris Johnston reports that forward Anthony Beauvillier is being traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick.
10:25: Latest from Friedman “on Rantanen: “stalemate” in contract negotiations as it stands. In a holding pattern. We will see.”
11:04 AM: As per Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff the Kings and Flyers made a trade sending Andrei Kuzmenko to L.A. for a 2027 3rd.
11:14 AM: The Senators have now confirmed the deal with the Sabres which is Dylan Cozens, Dennis Gilbert and a 2026 2nd round pick in exchange for Josh Norris and Jacob Bernard-Docker.
11:29 AM: Via Friedman “Mikko Rantanen and the Dallas Stars are closing in on an extension. 8 years, $12M AAV. Would get the deal done.”
12:00 PM: The Winnipeg Jets have traded a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick for right-shot defenceman Luke Schenn.
12:05 PM: The Wininipeg Jets have traded a 2027 second-round pick to the Seattle Kraken for Brandon Tanev.

12:40 PM: The Hockey Panel reacts to the Winnipeg Jets acquiring Luke Schenn and Brandon Tanev in two separate deals.
1:40 PM: The Colorado Avalanche continue to add. They have traded Casey Mittelstadt, Will Zellers, and a second-round pick to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth round pick.
1:41 PM: Winnipeger Cody Glass gets traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the New Jersey Devils.
