The entire world is focused on the coronavirus pandemic and the NHL has released the following statement in light of the fact that the NBA made this move tonight:
The National Hockey League is aware of the NBA’s decision tonight to indefinitely suspend its season due to a player testing positive for the coronavirus. The NHL is continuing to consult with medical experts and is evaluating the options. We expect to have a further update tomorrow.
Already the coronavirus has impacted the NHL with San Jose and Columbus being forced to not play games in front of any spectators because of government decrees in light of what is happening.
The Jets are in Edmonton at the moment playing the Oilers. What will tomorrow bring?
According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman:
“NHL conference call tomorrow with the teams, NHLPA will canvas its executive committee.”
The NHLPA added their own statement:
“We are in continuous contact with the NHL regarding the coronavirus and the recent announcement by the NBA. These discussions will continue tomorrow morning, and we will consult with players before commenting further.”
As the statement above indicates from the NHL they will have an update on Thursday.
