Here are the morning papers for Thursday the 29th of January:
- Teemu Selanne returned to the Ducks lineup on Wednesday and the team played quite well, unfortunately they still lost 3-2 to the Blackhawks.
- The Thrashers and the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA have combined for some exorbitant losses over the past few years. On the ice, newcomer Rich Peverley has fit in well alongside Ilya Kovalchuk.
- Phil Kessel is returning to the Bruins lineup today way ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron has been encouraged by what doctors have told him regarding the after effects of concussions when he’s done playing hockey.
- Ryan Miller took responsibility for his poor play on Wednesday in his team’s lost at Calgary.
- A big save by Miikka Kiprusoff and a big goal by Todd Bertuzzi were the turning points last night for the Flames. Michael Cammalleri’s hat trick sure didn’t hurt either. The Flames fans started a hilarious “Oilers Suck” chant last night.
- If the Hurricanes want to turn around their season they’ll have to improve on the power play.
- The Hawks began an eight-game road trip in Anaheim last night with a 3-2 win. Patrick Kane scored his first goal in thirteen games last night.
- Adrian Dater has a funny article on Ryan Smyth’s love for hockey cliches. Darcy Tucker and Andrew Raycroft return to Toronto tonight.
- Kristian Huselius and Rick Nash have developed some nice chemistry in Columbus. Meantime, Ken Hitchcock was happy with Jason Chimera’s first game as a center.
- The Stars play the Wings tonight, so we will see whether the team’s first game back against Atlanta was the start of a nice second half run.
- Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press gives credit to the Red Wings for Henrik Zetterberg’s contract extension. Zetterberg is choosing the Wings organization over more money somewhere else. The much-talked about Zetterberg isn’t playing tonight against Dallas because of a sore back.
- The Oilers are trying to regroup after a horrible performance Tuesday against Buffalo. All the blame should not fall on the shoulders of the Oilers’ netminders.
- David Booth has turned into a legitimate NHL scorer, writes George Richards.
- Jacques Lemaire tries to roll four lines as much as he can, writes Brian Stensaas. The Wild wasn’t very happy that Sheldon Souray wasn’t suspended for fighting with a wrist guard.
- The Habs had a very passionate practice on Wednesday, writes Pat Hickey.
- Will Martin Brodeur have to win his job back with the Devils?
- At least the Islanders have the draft to look forward to.
- Henrik Lundqvist was not happy with himself after last night’s game.
- Former Senators netminder Ray Emery lost it on his trainer in the KHL. In Ottawa, here is video of Eugene Melynk’s statement to people who say the Sens should be blown up.
- The Flyers tough reputation may be the reason they spend too much time in the box. One thing is for sure, there is no doubt they are paying for all these penalties.
- Peter Mueller is out of the Coyotes lineup with a minor concussion. Here is more on the off-ice problems from Phoenix.
- Sidney Crosby sure made his mark on Wednesday night. Matt Cooke was not happy about his two-game suspension.
- Apparently Dan Boyle didn’t get hurt at the All-Star game.
- The Blues have a fairly good idea of why they have been playing well as of late.
- Olaf Kolzig’s career could be over.
- Which Maple Leafs are most likely on the move?
- Jeff FInger gets to face his former Colorado teammates for the first time tonight. Justin Pogge has been re-assigned to the AHL.
- The Canucks just cannot win at home. At least Alain Vigneault still sees his players working hard and trying to bust this slump. The most stinging part of last night’s game may be the fact that Vancouver led 3-1.
- With tough economic times upon us, the Capitals are happy to see fan attention has increased surrounding the Capitals.
