Here are the NHL morning papers for Sunday, November 9, 2008:
The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens 6-3 Saturday night at Air Canada Centre, but defenseman Mike Van Ryan was injured in the process on a hit from behind courtesy of Tom Kostopoulous.
The Columbus Blue Jackets got their second win in as many nights, defeating the Calgary Flames 3-1 at the Saddledome. Sloppy turnovers, including one by Rene Bourque, were the achilles heel for Calgary. The Flames meet the Blackhawks tonight in Chicago.
The Vancouver Canucks continued their hot play last night, defeating the Minnesota Wild 2-0 at General Motors Place. Roberto Luongo registered his third straight shutout, and the Sedin twins had 75% of the points (don’t ask me to explain).
The New Jersey Devils not only lost 3-1 to the Detroit Red Wings Saturday night but were hit by the injury bug again, as Brian Gionta and Bryce Salvador left the game. Brodeur, Martin, Holik, Greene, and Rolston are already out so things don’t look promising right now for the Devs.
Detroit Red Wings superstar Marian Hossa is relaxed and confident playing for his new team, cracking jokes and playing pranks. Hossa is on pace for 100 points right now.
Stephen Harris of the Boston Herald believes that last night’s 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres may have been the Bruins’ best performance of the season. The Bruins look good right now.
Marty Turco misplayed the puck in front of his own net and it costs the Dallas Stars the game. As Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News points outs, Turco is one of the best puckhandling goalies in the NHL, so we can’t fault him too much. We are only human right?
