NHL Morning Papers (Post-Deadline Edition): Wild backed off Jokinen trade, Canucks wouldn’t part with Bieksa for Bouwmeester and tons of trade reaction

Here are the morning papers for Thursday the 5th of March:

• Helene Elliot breaks down both the Ducks’ and Kings’ trades from yesterday.  By trading many of his depth players and keeping Chris Pronger, Bob Murray hasn’t thrown in the towel on this season just yet.
• After never finding a groove in Atlanta, Erik Christenen was dealt by the Thrashers for young prospect Erik O’Dell.
• Fluto Shinzawa provides the details on the two new Bruins acquisitions Mark Recchi and Steve Montador.  Stephen Harris of the Boston Herald calls the Bruins clear winners.
• Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News gives his take on the Sabres moves and the rest of the moves in the NHL.  Darcy Regier thinks Dominic Moore provides the Sabres with more options than Ales Kotalik.
• Darryl Sutter had been attempting to acquire Olli Jokinen for some time now.  The Flames were finally able to make big moves because they now have the organizational depth.  Olli Jokinen is ecstatic to be heading to Calgary.  With so many injuries right now, these trades were even more important for Calgary.  Jordan Leopold is excited to be heading back to Calgary.  It is evident that Darryl Sutter has his sights set on the Cup.
• Jim Rutherford doesn’t think Erik Cole was comfortable in Edmonton.  It doesn’t appear that the Hurricanes have a contract extension lined up for Cole.
• Sami Pahlsson possesses all the attributes that the Hawks were after.
• Bob Hunter likes the Jackets’ move to acquire Antoine Vermette.  Scott Howson knew Antoine Vermette could score but was totally sold after watching him win two face-offs.  With the trade of
• Francois Giguere never asked Ryan Smyth and Milan Hedjuk to waive their no-trade clause.  The second round pick was the key to the return for Jordan Leopold.  Pascal Leclaire, it is Steve Mason’s net now and for the future.
• For a guy going to a new team, Brendan Morrison sure has a lot of prior relationships in Dallas, writes Mike Heika.
• The Wings should be Cup bound, so long as injuries, playoff matchups and goaltending doesn’t deter them, writes Michael Rosenberg.  Wings GM Ken Holland didn’t see any trades that were worthwhile.
• Ales Hemsky and new Oilers Ales Kotalik are close friends.  The guys in the Oilers room really did like Erik Cole.  Cole was disappointed things didn’t work out better in Edmonton.  The Oilers managment is excited by what Kotalik and O’Sullivan can bring to the table offensively.  Both players are expected to dress for tonight’s game in Ottawa.
• The Panthers players are glad to see Jay Bouwmeester stay and Steve Eminger join their group.  Nick Boynton has returned to the Panthers after his fight with Peter DeBoer.  “We didn’t have an offer that would improve our club, so we’re very pleased he’s with us,” said Jacques Martin about offers for Jay Bouwmeester.
• The Kings made a move to trade for the talented Justin WIlliams, Rich Hammond has the story.
• It looks like the Wild passed on the opportunity to acquire Olli Jokinen from Phoenix.
• Bob Gainey didn’t make any moves on Wednesday, and clearly stated he expects more from his current group.
• David Poile didn’t see a good fit for his team, so he passed on making any deadline moves.
• Lou Lamoriello wasn’t looking too aggressively to add on deadline day, as he had done his added to his team beforehand.
• The Islanders traded Bill Guerin for the best draft pick they were offered.  Charles Wang wants the Lighthouse Project approved or he says he’ll move the club.
• The Rangers are looking forward to having Nikolai Antropov parked in front of the net on the power play.  All of Derek Morris, Sean Avery and Antropov are expected to be in the lineup tonight.  Larry Brooks thinks the Rangers made a couple good moves yesterday.
• Antoine Vermette will miss Ottawa and his Senators teammates will miss him, writes Don Brennan.  Bruce Garrioch calls the Senators one of the  winners from deadline day.  Pascal Leclaire is excited to be playing so close to home.
• Paul Holmgren says the fans will love newcomer Daniel Carcillo.  The Flyers added grit to their forward corps and back-end on Wednesday.
• Don Maloney knew his team needed a facelift and he gave it one, writes Sarah McLellan.  Here’s who the Coyotes acquired yesterday.
• The Penguins added a veteran presence with some sandpaper in Bill Guerin.  Guerin will provide some nice leadership in the dressing room.  See you later Miroslav Satan.
• The Sharks made great improvement on their third line with the acquisition of Travis Moen.  Both Moen and defenseman Kent Huskins add a great toughness element.  Moen isn’t splashy, but he’ll do the job, writes Ray Rotto.
• The Blues stood pat on deadline day and didn’t deal Keith Tkachuk.
• The Lightning has started rebuilding.  The Lightning’s defense will be pretty awful for the remainder of the season.
• The Leafs added draft picks yesterday and are now looking towards making some noise this summer.   Brian Burke was happy with what he accomplished yesterday.  Martin Gerber is excited to be a Leaf.
• The Canucks were not going to give up Kevin Bieksa for Jay Bouwmeester.  Canucks GM Mike Gillis wasn’t going to sacrifice second round picks for short-term options.
• No moves out of Washington on trade deadline day.
