- The Flames played without Robyn Regehr last night in Anaheim and that is one of the reasons the team’s six-game winning streak came to an end, writes Jean Lefebvre. Calgary just can’t seem to find ways to win in Orange County.
- Jonathan Toews can score in the shootout, he has just had major trouble scoring during regulation play, writes Chris Kuc.
- Ryan Smyth is frustrated at his team’s mental lapses, writes Adrian Dater. After last night’s loss to San Jose, Terry Frei provides readers with his take on the reasons for Colorado’s struggles. Rob Blake came to town last night and says his current teammates remind him of his old Colorado teams.
- Ales Hemsky scored two highlight reel goals on Sunday afternoon to propel the Oilers to a 5-4 victory over the Flyers. Here is Jim Matheson’s weekly must-read article that was published after I posted the morning papers on Sunday.
- Brent Burns missed Saturday’s game for Minnesota with an upper-body injury but should be back in the line-up Tuesday against San Jose. Meantime, Wild youngster James Sheppard, who has struggled to start the season, expects a lot more of himself in the coming weeks, writes John Shipley.
- Jack Todd tells readers that the Habs may be magic this season. The Canadiens are currently sitting pretty in the standings but they still have lots of room to improve. Dave Stubbs explains number retiring when it comes to the Montreal Canadiens.
- The Senators have are interested in signing Mats Sundin to come play with Daniel Alfredsson.
- The power plays were the difference in Vancouver’s loss to the Red Wings at GM Place last night. The Canucks can’t score if they don’t have the puck, writes Brad Zeimer.
- The Leafs almost pulled off another crazy comeback in Carolina yesterday afternoon, but came up just short, writes Paul Hunter. Ron Wilson put Ian White in the line-up on Sunday with rumors that he was active in order for the Leafs to showcase him for a trade.
- Evgeny Artyukhin is starting to come into his own for the Lightning, writes Damian Cristodero.
- The Sharks made it four wins in a row last night in Colorado. David Pollak with a quick update on Kyle McClaren and how he’s playing in the AHL.
- The Flyers were poor on the forecheck in their 5-4 home loss to the Oilers, writes Frank Seravalli. Braydon Coburn was solid offensively last night but he left a lot to be desired on the defensive end.
- Bruce Boudreau skated his players in the ground at practice on Sunday.
- The Penguins know they didn’t have the most successful road trip but they were happy to at least finish it on a high note, writes Rob Rossi. Boy did the Penguins go through a lot of line-up changes over their aforementioned road trip. Does Sidney Crosby receive too much attention?
- Tom Renney is currently wasting Scott Gomez’s talents, writes Larry Brooks. Meanwhile, Steve Zipay wonders just how affected the Rangers will be by their late game collapse in Toronto.
- Kyle Okposo has been moved to the first line on the Island.
- Mark Everson of the NY Post thinks Martin Brodeur’s injury may be a lot more serious than the team is letting on.
- The Predators are going to get a chance to see what their game is like on the road, writes John Glennon.
- The L.A. Times decided to recount Marty McSorley’s illegal curve in the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals. (Writer’s note: Sounds like an interesting name for a blog…)
- The Panthers sleep walked through the first part of last night’s game versus Atlanta and it cost them the game, writes Steve Gorten. Adding to the Panthers’ troubles was the fact that Cory Stillman left last night’s game with facial injuries.
- The Wings left Vancouver last night with a victory and a total of 7 of 10 points from their five-game road trip. Mike Babcock was very impressed with the play of Chris Osgood yesterday.
- The Stars are struggling badly to start the season and their co-GMs are not happy about it.
- The Blue Jackets were impressed by Raffi Torres in his first regular season game with the club on Saturday.
- The Hurricanes weren’t about to drop two consecutive home games over the weekend, so they turned it up versus the Leafs and roared back to a 6-4 victory at the RBC Center.
- Ales Kotalik has been a great fit on the top line in Buffalo, writes John Vogl.
- You aren’t going to come into the Garden and push the Bruins around, says Zdeno Chara. Let’s just say the Bruins players do not have much respect for Steve Ott.
- Ondrej Pavelec got the start on Sunday and recorded a victory over the Panthers. It also helped that Iyla Kovalchuk broke out of his season long slump to post three points.
- The Ducks got back to playing their type of game on Sunday versus Calgary.
