During today’s All-Star festivities NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was making announcements about the upcoming World Cup of Hockey as well as the Outdoor games to be held next season.
In response to a question by Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun about failing to secure a Winnipeg outdoor game the comments from the commissioner were “I’m disappointed they didn’t make the stadium available to us”.
He followed this up by telling Ken that he respected the decision made by the Bombers and that they will are willing to try again. Expect more from Ken soon.
Following the comments by the head of the NHL, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press spoke with Bombers President Wade Miller who was less than pleased that his organization was taking it on the chin for the postponement. Miller said “All three parties had agreed on the date in Feb. Within last 2 wks, we were told that didn’t work for NHL.”
Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press first broke the news that there wouldn’t be an outdoor game four day ago “Heritage Classic put on hold“.
