News You Can Use: Sergei Fedorov signed by Metallurg Magnitogorsk

It appears that Fedorov’s time in North American is over.  And it seems like just yesterday he was sprinting past fans outside Winnipeg Arena to avoid signing autographs.

TSN.ca is reporting that:

The deal is reportedly for two years, and unites Fedorov with his younger brother, Fedor.

According to his agent Pat Brisson, Fedorov wanted to fulfill his father’s life-long wish of seeing his sons play on the same team.

The bigger picture question is what does this mean for the Washington Capitals?  Currently the Caps cap sits around $44 million for next year.  However both Niklas Backstrom and Karl Alzner have bonuses that, if reached, would be included in the cap hit and which could take it to 48 million for next season.  Should be an interesting day for Mr. McPhee come draft day as he possibly looks to get the Caps a proven commodity to help them immediately.
