Neal Pionk not quite ready to return as Winnipeg Jets prepare for Sabres

Jets defenceman Neal Pionk is set to miss his third straight game as he continues to recover from an injury suffered eight days ago against the Wild. Pionk left that game after just 2:05 of ice time in the first period.

He avoided a significant injury and was back on the ice two days later before the Jets departed on their road trip.

Last Wednesday, head coach Scott Arniel said Pionk remains day-to-day after giving it another try but “didn’t feel quite right.”

Pionk took part in this morning skate in Buffalo in a regular jersey, but Winnipeg Free Press reporter Mike McIntyre noted he is not expected to play against the Sabres.

Arniel said, “I think he snuck that one on himself there. Not ready. Not yet. Not skating yesterday, he’s gotta get on the ice here, gotta get some reps in. I know they’re trying to do some banging today to see how he was — I’ll find out after.”

With the Jets off tomorrow, he won’t skate again until Wednesday when the team faces the Canadiens in Montreal, and we will have to wait and see at the morning skate if he will be able to play.
