Nashville Predators red-hot play continues with 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets

The NHL/AHL teams of Winnipeg/Manitoba & Nashville/Milwaukee both played today: Moose won handedly 6-0 this AM. But the Jets could not keep that momentum going as they lost 4-2 and they fail to gain ground on the Stars.

Notable:

When warm-up began there was no sign of Mark Scheifele who was scratched due to illness. Word was a number of players were playing with it. Regardless not having 55 in the lineup was a big loss for the home team.

For the second game in a row the Jets opponent started off with a good chance against.

Sloppiness and poor structure led to the two goals Nashville got in the opening period. The first goal is one Connor Hellebuyck usually saves 99 times out of 100 after a Brenden Dillon pinch along the walls set up the Preds 2 on 1 to open the scoring.

They didn’t give up a goal in the middle frame but were outshot 19-7 as the Predators just looked like a hungrier team.

Similar breakdowns led to the three other goals for the visitors which meant the home team was down 4-0 and the game was as good as over early in the 3rd period.

It was reviewed but Alex Iafallo broke up the shutout bid for Juuse Saros later in the final frame with a tip to get to double digits in goals with his 10th.

And then in the too little, way too late category Mason Appleton got a goal with 11 seconds left in the period. That was his 11th of the season as he gets to the 30 point mark (11G 19A) for the first time in his career.

Colin Miller got his first point as a Jet with the primary assist on the second goal.

The Jets followed up an excellent win on Friday in Seattle with a stinker in Vancouver. Today they followed up a great game in Winnipeg against the Capitals on Monday with a stinker against the Preds.

Multipoint Game:
