The NHL season begins in less than a month and the question has been raised as to why the NHL has decided to play the opening two games of the season in London, England rather than another more “hockey-oriented” city. The short answer is that the NHL is looking for other ways to raise revenue, and it is not like the game of hockey needs to grow in the Scandinavian countries. Additionally, the league has already started a season in the Far East. Beginning the season in London is just the next logical step in attempting to increase revenue and publicity for a league shorely lacking in those departments.
