The Moose arrested their slide last weekend when they earned a split with the Wolves and then had a few days of rest, recovery and practice before they took on the IceHogs. This is the first meeting in Winnipeg in over two years between these central division rivals.
Lineup changes:
A few familiar faces returned to the Moose this evening. Dylan Samberg was set to play his first game with Manitoba since January 8th. He was hurt with the Jets on Jan 25th. And CJ Suess hadn’t played an AHL game since December 17th. He was injured Jan 13th with Winnipeg.
Moose lineup:
Malott – Gustafsson – Eyssimont
Polei – Maier – Jones
Suess – Meireles – Lynch
Alfaro – Hutchinson – Burgess
Heinola – Kovacevic
Chisholm – Gawanke
Samberg – Oligny
Berdin
Holm
Notable:
Just 1:55 into the opening period 2018 5th rounder Declan Chisholm scored his seventh goal of the season.
First AHL point for Nick Hutchison who was playing in his 11th game of the season (fifth with Manitoba).
After blowing a two goal lead the home side was able to restore things when Mikey Eyssimont scored in tight late in the 1st on the power play.
It was a fairly uneventful middle frame but Greg Meireles scored a no doubter on the power play to restore the Manitoba two goal lead. It meant a three point night for the Ottawa product who hit the 20 assist mark in his first full season in the AHL.
The top scorer in the AHL has 66 points. The top scorer on the Moose is Jets 2017 5th rounder Leon Gawanke (27 points) which puts him 103rd overall in AHL scoring. Moose came into tnt’s game 20th overall in scoring but have the 7th best winning percentage. Talk about playing a team game.
It was a solid game from Evan Polei who finished with one goal and two assists.
As I mentioned above the Moose came into the game 20th overall in AHL scoring but now find themselves 14th after the 7-2 win.
After dropping three straight at home the Moose have rebounded with two straight wins to even their home record at 3-3 on this nine game homestand as they beat up the IceHogs 7-2. They improve to 17-6-0-1 in Winnipeg.
