The big news before the game got underway, which is impressive given it was a 10:30 AM start was that Jets top D prospect Elias Salomonsson had been recalled up to NHL club of Winnipeg to head out on the road with them with Neal Pionk injured in the game on Sunday. Turns out the injury isn’t too significant but also the expectation is that Salomonson will make his NHL debut tomorrow night.
Lineup news:
Despite winning six straight games the Moose made some tweaks to their lines swapping Di Giuseppe and Lambert. And for what it’s worth do not get fixated on lines 1-4. These could literally be listed in reverse and it would be lines 1-4. Manitoba is just a deep group up front.
Moose lineup:
Barlow – Zhilkin – JAD
Di Giuseppe – Ford – Chibrikov
Shaw – Gustafsson – Duehr
Lambert – Yager – Fagemo
Heinola – Clague
Phillips – Bauer
Sautner – Frisch
DiVincentiis
Notable:
After a disjointed opening period with plenty of penalties and whistles the Moose started the middle frame off on a good skate. Parker Ford got his first goal of the season with good pressure from Duehr/Shaw. That guy doing colour sounds familiar.
The only other goal that the Moose managed in this game was Kale Clague picking the corner with this shot.
The game was a lot closer than the 5-2 score would indicate. Manitoba had plenty of chances throughout the game that they just couldn’t bury, including two grade As when the score was 0-0.
The loss ends their six-game win streak and drops them to 9-7-2.
