The Moose were back in Rockford looking to close out their five-game road trip with another win over the IceHogs, having already edged them 3–2 on Wednesday. After last night’s victory in Milwaukee, the team entered the matchup riding their longest winning streak of the season at three games.
Lineup news:
No changes as Moose stick with the lineup that gave them a 3-1 win yesterday.
Moose lineup:
Di Giuseppe – Yager – Fagemo
Barlow – Zhilkin – JAD
Shaw – Gustafsson – Duehr
Empey – Conley – Vitelli
Heinola – Clague
Phillips – Salomonsson
Sautner – Anhorn
Milic
Notable:
The Moose found themselves down 1-0 after 20 minutes in Rockford.
But they came to life in the middle frame outscoring the IceHogs 4-1 to take command of the game.
It began early in the period with Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin scoring his third goal of the season (in game 15) to tie the game. That matched his career high he set last season when he scored three goals in 53 games for Manitoba. (And he wasn’t done there).
Back-to-back games with a goal for Walker Duehr who gave the Moose their first lead of the game approximately three minutes and 30 seconds later when he made this drive to the net. That’s his fifth goal of the season. Great pass by Ville Heinola who held on before making the stretch pass to Duehr.
With the game tied 2-2, Danny Zhilkin would set a new career high for goals as he got his second of the game and fourth of the season. It was his first ever shorthanded goal and second ever game-winning goal. Really nice pass by Walker Duehr.
Samuel Fagemo was brought into the organization to score and he shows off those skills on this play. His fourth of the season and second in three games adds insurance for Moose. It goes down unassisted, but Jets prospect Brayden Yager’s disruption created opening Fagemo buried.
The captain Mason Shaw added some insurance in the 3rd and Manitoba would win their fourth straight game on the road.
Prospect Colby Barlow making friends as he finished his check which drew the ire of Nick Lardis. End result was JAD and Kevin Korchinski dropping the gloves and both got misconducts for continuing altercation.
I always find it amusing when the gloves explode off guys hands in a bunch of different directions just prior to a tilt. Moose captain Mason Shaw wasn’t happy being on the receiving end of some cross checks by Nolan Allan and lets him know it.
With the victory they are now 7-6-2 which puts them into a tie for 3rd in the Central. Given they had lost three straight and it was looking a bit dicey, quite a turnaround for the AHL club of Manitoba.
Multi-point game:
Walker Duehr 1G 2A
Danny Zhilkin 2G
Ville Heinola 2A
