Moose comeback falls short as Stars take it 5-3 leaving Manitoba with just one game left in season

Like last year the Moose find themselves in Texas taking on the Stars to close out the regular season. Unlike last year this year’s team is just playing out the string as they will not be participating in the playoffs.

Lineup news:

No Isaak Phillips or Dylan Coghlan for the Moose and you wonder if the Jets want them out of the lineup so they don’t get hurt before potentially getting recalled up to the big club to be on the practice roster for what Winnipeg hopes is a deep playoff run. Brad Lambert (foot) and Dominic Toninato (recalled) not available.

Lines & D pairs:

Wagner– Zhilkin –Shaw
AJF – Conley – Vitelli
Walton – Suess– King
Malmquist-Guzzo-Gengenbach

Sautner–Salomonsson
Barteaux – Lundmark
Anhorn – Bauer

DiVincentiis

Notable:

While the opening goal of the game for Texas wasn’t technically a power play goal it came just as the penalty to Mason Shaw expired scored by former Moose defenceman Kyle Capobiancco. He would strike again about four minutes later to make it a 2-0 game for the home team.

Speedster Axel Jonsson-Fjallby got the Moose on the board with a shorthanded goal. He matched his goal total from last season. The only problem for Manitoba is they gave up a goal on that same penalty kill to find themselves down 4-1 after 20 minutes.

Six minutes into the middle frame there was a milestone as it was the first pro point for Jets prospect Kieron Walton (2024 6th) who set up Ben King which was his 12th of the year. Moose found themselves down 4-2.

The Jets 2022 draft class came through to bring the Moose within one in the 3rd courtesy of a great rush by Danny Zhilkin (3rd) and a smart feed to Fabian Wagner (6th) who got his 8th of the season.

However, the comeback fell short as the Stars scored an empty netter to take it 5-3.

Multi-point game:

None.
