Season most likely over for Manitoba Moose captain Jimmy Oligny

Back on November 5th the Moose were playing host to the IceHogs when Manitoba captain Jimmy Oligny went into the boards in the 2nd period and needed help off the ice (see below).

A few days Moose head coach Mark Morrison indicated that it was an “ACL and an MCL issue” but that Oligny would still be seeing doctors for further testing. Five days later the news was that the captain would need surgery and was expected to miss months.

Following practice today I asked bench boss Mark Morrison if he had an update on the timeline and how the surgery went. He indicated

“The timeline is going to be six months plus so his season is most likely done. He had surgery and the surgery went really well and now it’s all about his rehab.”

So unless the Moose make it deep into the Calder Cup playoffs it seems likely the captain’s season is over for 2023-24. In total he played eight games for Manitoba finishing with one assist.

Of course he will still be around the team as he continues to rehab confirms the head coach.

“Absolutely. He’s still our captain and we hope to have him around as much as we can.”

Tough but not unexpected news for the Quebec product who worked his way back from a big injury last season which limited him to 17 games in the 2022-23 season.
