Moose bring ‘A’ game in 4-2 re-match win over Rampage

Less than 24 hours after these two teams did battle they were back at it on the MTS Centre ice this afternoon.  Quinton Howden and Scott Glennie were both scratches (Update: Coach Vincent told us post-game that Howden, Glennie and Lodge were injured).  Aside from those changes Coach Vincent chose to go back to Eric Comrie after his 37 save performance in the 4-2 win over San Antonio on Saturday night.  That proved to be a good decision as he kept it scoreless in the 1st period including this save.

Heading into the 2nd period the Moose took it up a notch as they got goals from Dan DeSalvo, Chase De Leo and Jack Roslovic. And they were nice goals, especially the third one of the game which should leave Jets fans warm and fuzzy seeing Kyle Connor and Jack Roslovic showing such good chemistry.

As important as the goals were for the Moose it also helped guys break out of some slumps. DeSalvo had gone 13 games without a goal, De Leo five games and Roslovic had gone 15 games without a goal.

They did give up a late goal (15.5 seconds to go on the power play) with Ryan Olsen in the box.

But they started off the 3rd period quickly with Kyle Connor getting his 12th goal of the year.

Bit of a scary moment as Nelson Nogier and Rampage captain Joe Whitney dropped the gloves and as they tussled the San Antonio captain launched the Moose defenceman face first into the ice. Looked nasty but aside from a bloody face he was up after being attended to.

Rocco Grimaldi, the leading scorer for San Antonio, added a power play goal which appeared to deflect in off Julian Melchiori to bring the Rampage within two.

But the Moose managed to hold on for the 4-2 win.  That’s back to back wins for the first time since January 1st and 3rd for Manitoba.

They now head out on the road for four games starting with a Tuesday night date with the Rockford IceHogs.
