The Red Wings will hold a press conference Wednesday morning to announce a new three-year contract for Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.
The deal is believed to average around $1.5 million a season. Babcock, 45, guided the Wings to the Stanley Cup exactly one week ago, when the Wings won at Pittsburgh, clinching their fourth straight series on the road.

No brainer for both sides. The chance was less than 0.1% that this deal wasn’t going to happen. Babcock is an absolutely terrific head coach–the best in the NHL in my opinion. On the other hand, the Wings are the best organization in the NHL. What more could both sides want?
