From Tom Reed of Columbus Dispatch:
It’s looking more likely veteran defenseman Richard Matvichuk will attend Blue Jackets’ training camp as a non-roster tryout. The club, however, is still waiting for Matvichuk to formally accept its invitation.
The 35-year-old rearguard, who spent all of last season playing for the New Jersey Devils’ farm club, would be a long shot to make a club stocked with four veteran NHL defensive defensemen: Jan Hejda, Rusty Klesla, Fedor Tyutin and Mike Commodore. That’s not counting Aaron Rome and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen.

The post goes onto point out that Matvichuk has shed about 20 pounds this off-season. Considering he is a Hitchcock favorite and should probably be quicker with his weight-loss, Matvichuk is almost certainly going to come into camp and try and make the team.
