Sorry Leafs fans. You won’t be getting the most coveted college free agent defenseman on the market. Gilroy is supposed to be that good considering 20+ teams were interested in his services. Never mind the 2 years and $3.5 million he just signed for before ever playing a NHL game. This move is a good one by the Rangers, as it only cost them money and no other assets. In addition, they can throw him on the back-end with talented youngsters Marc Staal and Daniel Girardi to develop a nice three-defensemen core to add to Redden and Roszival.
