Notable:
We spoke about the need for the power play to give the Jets some life on today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show and they struck in the 1st to open the scoring as Alex Iafallo had all sorts of time and space to get his first of the season.
We knew Morgan Barron wasn’t gonna do it but Luke Schenn doesn’t know Jeff Malott and the former Jet/Moose and the current Jet dropped the gloves after a solid hit by Logan Stanley on Alex Turcotte.
Mark Scheifele got a hometown assist to tie the game for the Jets with his first of the season. It wasn’t shorthanded (as Connor had just come out of the box) but Winnipeg sure is showing they are hungry when a man short. No surprise Morgan Barron involved as he made a nice play on Byfield in the Jets end and then got the puck up to 55.
The 60th game-winning goal of Mark Scheifele‘s career was an “Are you kidding me” moment as he perfectly tipped home the Josh Morrissey shot (which I suspect was what 44 intended). That was unreal. What a goal.
Against his former team, Gabriel Vilardi recorded his 100th point with his current team. He’s got 49 goals and 51 assists since in 120 games since joining Winnipeg.
Connor Hellebuyck was very good in this hockey game as he stopped 30 of 32 shots but he kept his team in the fight throughout the 60 minutes of this game.
Multi Point Game:
Mark Scheifele 2G
Gabriel Vilardi 2A
