Manitoba Moose slide hits three games as they drop home opener 5-3 to the IceHogs

The Moose came into today’s game having lost both contests last weekend so they were wanting to get back on track for their home opener in front of a very enthusiastic crowd at Canada Life Centre with over 4000 in attendance.

Lineup news:

Good news was Jets 2021 first rounder Chaz Lucius was feeling good and was scheduled to play his second game of the season. Still no Tyrel Bauer as the Jets prospect is dealing with a back issue that flared up the previous Saturday and which kept him out of both games against the Griffins last week.

Moose lineup:

Toninato-Lambert-Chibrikov
Shaw-Zhilkin-Ford
Suess-Lucius-AJF
Liwiski-Nikkanen-Torgersson

Lundmark – Salomonsson
Anhorn – Kuzmin
Sautner – Barteaux

Milic
DiVincentiis

Notable:

Kicked off 10 seasons of in-person Moose coverage with the game.

After introductions the Moose paid tribute to long-time video coach Richard Bue who lost his battle with cancer this past summer. Richard was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in hockey and he will be missed.

Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic didn’t have to make a lot of first period saves but he made some high quality ones. That’s for sure.

First goal in Winnipeg for the Moose goes to C.J. Suess as he finishes off this pass from AJF who had a good forecheck to create the turnover. Made it a 1-0 game for Manitoba. Chaz Lucius would get his first point of the season.

Just as the 1st period would down the Moose would add to their lead to make it a 2-0 game as Mason Shaw tips home the Ashton Sautner shot. Jets prospect Brad Lambert had grabbed the puck to start the chance.

Jets prospect Chaz Lucius showed off some deception to create this opportunity for himself in the middle frame.

Things fell off for the Moose in the middle frame despite a good start (4-1 shot edge) as the IceHogs scored twice on two shots to tie the game and then took the lead on the power play. They’d add two more goals in the final frame to make it a 5-2 game.

Winnipeg would get one back thanks to the work of a trio of Jets prospects with Nikita Chibrikov (2021 2nd) took a Brad Lambert (2022 1st) pass from an initial feed of Elias Salomonsson (2022 2nd).

Multi-point game:

Brad Lambert 2A
