The local AHL clubs inks a pair of Manitobans as the Moose announced the signing of defencemen from The Postage Stamp Province. They inked Dean Stewart of Portage la Prairie and Dawson Barteaux of Foxwarren to one-year contracts.
Stewart was a Coyotes draft pick (2016 7th) who began his pro career in the ECHL with the Wichita Thunder back in 2020-21 after four years at U. of Nebraska-Omaha. He split the 2021-22 campaign between Wichita and also played 20 games for the Moose. He spent last season in Manitoba getting into 61 games (1G 17A).
The news about Dawson Barteaux was out last week. He is also familiar with playing in Winnipeg as the Manitoban played for the Ice of the WHL back in 2019-20 to close out his junior career which began for the right-shot defenceman in Regina.
The 2018 6th rounder of the Dallas Stars played 25 games as a rookie with the Stars AHL affiliate followed by 30 games in his second season as a pro although he also played 11 games that same season with the Idaho Steelheads. He would spend time in both the AHL and ECHL this past season although the majority of his games (62) were in the ECHL.
