It appears my time of using his last name in a (to me anyway) humourous manner is coming to a close as the Moose have announced that they have released Jiri “this is not a Fronking joke” Fronk from his AHL contract.
The Czech Repubic native was undrafted by any NHL team. He played in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in 2014-15 before making the jump to the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. The Moose had just signed him to a contract this past July but clearly either the team or the player didn’t feel it was working out. I suspect it wasn’t Fronk though as just a few days ago on November 6th when he was being interviewed by Mitch Peacock he indicated that “it’s my goal to play here for longest time I can”. Perhaps Scott Kosmachuk and Patrice Cormier are close to returning and maybe they anticipate getting some recruits back from the Jets when Stafford, Little and Perreault return to the NHL club and push out some of the younger players (whenever that is…).
Moose Release:
The Manitoba Moose Hockey Club announced today the team has released forward Jiri Fronk from his AHL contract.
Fronk, 22, played in one game with the Moose this season, registering two shots on goal. The Louny, Czech Republic native also played four games with the Moose’s ECHL affiliate Tulsa Oilers, tallying four goals. Last season, Fronk played 33 games for Manitoba and totaled eight points (6G, 2A). He also suited up for five games for Tulsa in 2015-16, picking up two points (1G, 1A).
