Lots has happened since the last time the Moose were in Winnipeg back in early March. The AHL franchise of Manitoba won their final three games at home before they were scheduled to head out on the road for six straight games against divisional opponents. It was a road trip that would likely make or break their chances to make playoffs.
Beginning in Milwaukee on March 6th they picked up their first victory before heading to Iowa were they earned a split with the Wild. They returned to Wisconsin and earned another two points against the Admirals which set up a big weekend two-game set with the Wolves in Chicago to close out the road trip. After coming back on Friday night to win 3-2 in a shootout they blew out the Wolves the next day to end the trip with a 6-2 victory. By virtue of them going 5-1-0 they gave themselves a six point buffer over the Wolves, who had one game in hand but ended up losing on Sunday (with 14 seconds left in regulation) to the Wild.
Also on Friday the Jets announced they had swung a minor league deal with the Senators organization sending Wyatt Bongiovanni to Ottawa for future considerations.
Skate news:
Everyone was present and accounted for with the exception of Dean Stewart who has been off the ice after taking a shot to the foot. It was a quick 45 minutes on the ice as they get ready for the school day game tomorrow.
AHL Player of the Week:
A big part of the Moose resurgence has been the play of rookie netminder and Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic. Today, the AHL named him Player of the Week after he ‘allowed only four goals on 85 shots last week (3-0-0, 1.30, .953) as the Moose earned three critical road wins over Central Division opponents.’
