Manitoba Moose Playoff Practice Report

The Moose took Sunday off as they continue to alternate between practice and rest while they wait for their second round (but the first one they will play in) playoff series gets underway with the Admirals later this week. They have been off since Sunday, April 16th. The wait doesn’t seem very welcome for most players who are ready to go although it will give guys an opportunity to heal up including 2018 5th rounder Declan Chisholm who suffered a high-ankle sprain last month.

Reassigned:

Just like they received last week, this week they got another OHLer as the Jets announced on Sunday that they had reassigned Danny Zhilkin from the Kitchener Rangers to the Moose.

Practice notes:

There was some thought with Josh Morrissey done for the rest of the series with the Golden Knights that the Jets would recall a defenceman from Manitoba but they haven’t yet. Especially since yesterday Winnipeg bench boss Rick Bowness indicated yesterday that they might go 11/7 which would mean they are using all their available defencemen. Interestingly, all Moose D were present and accounted for including Declan Chisholm who was in a regular practice jersey for the first time after recovering from a high-ankle sprain suffered last month.

Danny Zhilkin (2022 3rd rounder) was on the ice with his new Moose teammates for practice this morning. He’s wearing number 17 for those curious.

The team actually held a scrimmage with a WHL ref and two linesman as they try to simulate gameplay while they await the start of their series with the Admirals.

Missing netminders:

Goalie Arvid Holm wasn’t on the ice for practice and it turns out that he was recalled by the Jets as back-up netminder David Rittich is dealing with a lower-body issue. Means both Manitoba goalies are up with the big club as Oskari Salminen has been the third goalie with Winnipeg. Leaves them with Evan Cormier and Joe Murdaca.

Done for the season:

The outlook for Kristian Reichel wasn’t good last week in our report and today I confirmed that he is having surgery and is done for the season. Tough news for the hard-working winger.

That’s a Y not an I:

For some players who come from overseas names can get lost in translation (literally). Whether it’s the pronunciation or the spelling often times  we see it in different ways. Case in point Jets 2021 3rd rounder Dmitry (note the y) Kuzmin. Elite Prospects has it with an I while Hockey DB has it with a Y. So what is the right way? Went to the man himself for confirmation and he confirmed that he prefers it with a Y and not an I.
