The eighth captain of the Manitoba Moose franchise will be Winnipegger Peter Stoykewych. Stoykewych was a 7th round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers back in 2010. After playing four seasons of college hockey at Colorado College he is now entering his fourth full season of pro hockey. His game really took a jump last season and you could see the confidence in which he played.
In addition to Stoykewych the team has named JC Lipon and Cameron Schilling as alternates. Lipon was a 3rd round pick of the Jets in 2013 and has played six pro seasons for the Winnipeg organization, primarily in the AHL with nine NHL games in 2015-16. Schilling is a veteran blueline who joined Manitoba last season and signed again with the organization this past offseason.
This trio doesn’t come as much of a shock and were the players I had anticipated being selected.
The Moose home opener is tomorrow night against the Belleville Senators.
