The Scarcello family has put together quite a rink in their backyard. In fact it caught the eye of the Manitoba Moose winning their first ever Backyard Rink Contest. Folks were greeted by this hand made sign upon first arriving at the residence:
And then welcomed by the backyard rink itself which included a working scoreboard:
Eventually Mick E. Moose and four Moose players including local product Quinton Howden, Darren Kramer, Dan DeSalvo and Kevin Czuczman joined the kids in braving the -16 degree Celsius temperatures for a little game of backyard shinny.
Vice President of Business Operations for the Manitoba Moose Dan Hursh opened by presenting the Scarcello family with a team autographed Manitoba Moose jersey. The Moose had also brought along tons of giveaways for the young kids (and some of the adults) in attendance including Eric Comrie bobbleheads, Moose toques as well as car flags. There was also plenty of food that the kids enjoyed around the backyard fire.
Prior to puck drop the family even played and sang O’Canada which included a True North chant.
In the end and despite the cold the Moose players know the impact showing up in the community, interacting with fans can have in the long run. Quinton Howden of nearby Oakbank, Manitoba spoke about that after the shinny game on the long lasting impact and being able to give back to his community “This is where I grew up. I remember doing this as kids. Memories like this they will last a lifetime. Something like this is pretty cool for the kids.”
Good job by the Scarcello family for hosting the event and nice way for the Manitoba Moose to help create some lasting memories in the community.
