Manitoba Moose get back on track with 5-4 shootout win over the Milwaukee Admirals

The Moose have been on a slide (3-7-0) and were in tough with a morning game in Milwaukee against an Admirals team that came into the contest 9-2-0 and leading the Central Division. Special teams were a big focus last week and would play a big factor in this hockey game.

Lineup news:

Still no Chaz Lucius who wasn’t certain to be on the trip for Manitoba. Recently claimed netminder Kaapo Kahkonen did not dress for this game. No Brad Lambert. He finished last game in Texas and he practiced with the team yesterday. So possible he’s hampered by illness or something nagging. And no Ashton Sautner who left last game against the Stars in the 1st period and did not return.

Moose lineup:

Suess-Toninato-Ford
Empey-JAD-Chibrikov
Shaw-King-AJF
Liwiski-Conley-Torgersson

Lundmark – Salomonsson
Anhorn – Barteaux
Kuzmin – Bauer

Milic

Notable:

The Moose must like the morning starts as they got things going courtesy of Dominic Toninato who made it 1-0 on the power play. Nice little dance from the Minnesotan as he heads to the bench.

Manitoba didn’t allow a shot for first 9:44 of the hockey game.

Elias Salomonsson with a 1st period power play goal to made it 2-1 for the Moose. That gives Manitoba six power play goals this season and the Jets prospect has been in on all of them this season (2G 4A).

It was an excellent 1st period by the Moose as they led 2-1 after 20 and were outshooting the Admirals 16-5.

First multi goal game for Jets prospect Elias Salomonsson who was out there picking corners off a nice pass from AJF.

17 seconds after taking the lead the Moose give it up as the Admirals cause chaos in front and Svechkov gets his second of the game to tie it 3-3.

With 11 seconds left in the middle frame Dylan Anhorn joined the rush and deposits the Parker Ford shot rebound into the back of the net. That’s his second goal of the season and the Moose regain the lead which is 4-3. What a whack-ado period of hockey.

Jets prospect Elias Salomonsson looking more and more comfortable each game he’s playing with the Moose as the Swedish prospect gets acclimatized to North American ice surfaces.

Every time I watch a game that’s being played in Milwaukee the yellow makes me think of the old Winnipeg Arena.

With Matt Murray out of the net the Moose could not get the clear and they get burned with 1:33 left in the 3rd as Admirals tied the game 4-4. Nobody cleared the front of the net.

Those special teams were special today for Manitoba and none bigger than in OT where they successfully killed their fifth penalty of the game with plays like this one from Tyrel Bauer in extra time. They also went 2/4 on the power play so it was a good day for both special teams.

OT solved nothing so this game would require a shootout.

Jets prospect Nikita Chibrikov scored to put the Moose ahead in the shootout as he beats Matt Murray with this move.

And then it was up to Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic to stop the AHL leading scorer to preserve the win…and he did. Moose win 5-4 over the Admirals in Milwaukee in a shootout.

With the victory Manitoba improves to 4-7-0 on the season

Multi-point game:

Elias Salomonsson 2G 1A
Nikita Chibrikov 2A
