The Moose are looking to get out from under the weight of a an eight-game slide (0-7-1) as they’ve played some good hockey but not a complete enough game to get two points. They did get a boost this week as the Jets loaned Nikita Chibrikov and Dylan Coghlan.
Lineup news:
Nikita Chibrikov back from his four games with the Jets. Dylan Coghlan makes his Moose debut. And prospect Danny Zhilkin back in after dealing with a knee issue.
Lines & D pairs:
Shaw – JAD – Ford
Lucius -Lambert – Suess
AJF – Toninato – Chibrikov
Wagner -Zhilkin – Torgersson
Sautner – Lundmark
Barteaux – Coghlan
Anhorn – Bauer
Kahkonen
Notable:
Quite the boost as Dylan Coghlan made an immediate impact with his new club as he scored the opening goal of the game.
Bit of a miscue behind the Moose net gave the IceHogs the opportunity to tie the game with 11 minutes left in the middle frame.
That would have been an unfortunate own goal but Moose goalie Kaapo Kahkonen with some sixth sense makes the awkward stop.
Sixty minutes wasn’t enough as the game would need OT but Kaapo Kahkonen was phenomenal in the 3rd period stopping all 17 shots he faced and making 30 saves on 31 shots in regulation.
Dylan Coghlan almost played OT hero for the Moose.
Moose with a flurry of chances in OT as it wound down but no dice and the game would need a shootout.
Nikita Chibrikov with the silky-smooth moves in the shootout to open the scoring for the Moose.
And then Jaret Anderson-Dolan said goodbye to the Moose slide as he secures the win for the home team in the shootout.
Manitoba takes it 2-1 over Rockford. Big win for the AHL club.
