Manitoba Moose get back in win column as they defeat IceHogs 3-1 to earn weekend split

After losing their home opener to the IceHogs on Saturday afternoon the Moose were looking to earn themselves a split in today’s afternoon re-match.

Lineup news:

A number of changes today for Manitoba as Ben King came in for Jets prospect Chaz Lucius (ice time management). On the 4th line they swapped out Daniel Torgersson and Mark Liwiski for Tyson Empey and Kevin Conley. On defence out came Dmitry Kuzmin and Ben Zloty made his Moose debut. As well Jets goalie prospects swapped spots with Thomas Milic giving up the crease for Domenic DiVincentiis who made his Winnipeg pro debut.

Moose lineup:

Toninato-Lambert-Ford
Shaw-King-Chibrikov
Suess-Zhilkin-AJF
Conley-Nikkanen-Empey

Sautner – Salomonsson
Anhorn – Lundmark
Zloty – Barteaux

DiVincentiis

Notable:

During a double minor penalty to Elias Salomonsson, we saw a memorable first ever pro goal for Dylan Anhorn as he put the Moose ahead with this shorthanded snip. The final replay really shows how he used the IceHogs player as a screen. Can hear the cheering for him all the way from Alberta.

The home team also allowed a shorthanded goal against late in the 1st period.

In the 2nd there was a Danny Zhilkin goal was waved off for high-sticking although it appeared that AJF never made contact with it.

Early in the 3rd period the Moose took the lead on the power play as Jets prospect Brad Lambert got his first of the season to make it a 2-1 game. It was assisted by Elias Salomonsson and Nikita Chibrikov. Second straight day the Jets prospect trio combined for a power play goal.

About five minutes later some great anticipation by C.J. Suess sprung him on a breakaway to pad the Moose lead to two goals.

Jets goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis was having himself a stellar afternoon as he showed with this save on a late PK for Manitoba. In total he made 30 stops for the Moose including this one to keep his team ahead.

The game-winning goal was Brad Lambert’s as the Moose earn the split and improve to 3-3-0-0 on the season.

The Moose special teams has been quite effective this season with both sitting at 14th in the AHL.

Multi-point game:
