The Moose are about to get loose on the 2023-24 AHL season but had one final day of training camp here in Winnipeg before they could officially kick off their ninth season back in the province of Manitoba.
The team made two more moves on Wednesday to reduce their roster to 28 players although unlike the NHL the AHL doesn’t have any roster or salary cap limits. The Moose along with all the other American Hockey League teams do have to submit their opening night roster to the AHL by 11:59 PM. this evening.
Practice got underway at Canada Life Centre at 10:30 AM today with almost the full group skating. The six guys missing were Wyatt Bongiovanni, Henri Nikkanen, Nicholas Jones, Dmitry Kuzmin, Carson Goldar and Thomas Caron who reportedly skated earlier.
The only question for the game group will be who are the extra two defenceman as this is how the game group looked:
Forwards (12): Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Parker Ford, Jeffrey Viel, Jeff Malott, Kristian Reichel, Dominic Toninato, Danny Zhilkin, Brad Lambert, Chaz Lucius, Nikita Chibrikov, C.J. Suess and Daniel Torgersson.
Defence (8): Kyle Capobianco, Ashton Sautner, Tyrel Bauer, Dawson Barteaux, Simon Lundmark, Artemi Knaizev, Jimmy Oligny and Dean Stewart.
Goalies (2): Oskari Salminen and Collin Delia.
After skate we spoke to Manitoba head coach Mark Morrison, forwards Brad Lambert/Chaz Lucius and goalie Collin Delia. Takeaway I got is a lot of excitement for these guys to get Moose hockey underway tomorrow.
