Manitoba Moose end regular season with sweep of weekend set vs Stars who are upcoming play-in opponent

The Moose were looking to end the regular season on the right skate as they concluded the season in a re-match with the Stars who they obliterated in Texas on Friday night at 8-3. Would they be able to follow that up with another solid victory?

Pre-game news:

Moose announced they’ve signed goalie Brett Brochu to a PTO. Oskari Salminen started last night’s game but left after 15:32 of the 1st period. Didn’t seem to get hurt but that’s when he left the game.

Lineup news:

Looks like the Moose are resting Kristian Reichel, Jeff Malott and Kyle Capobianco. After getting the night off, Brad Lambert and Nikita Chibrikov were back in the lineup.

Moose lineup:

Golder – Lambert – AJF
Viel – Suess – Ford
Chibrikov – Levis– Barlow
Torgersson-Nikkanen-Liwiski

Anhorn – Barteaux
Heinola –Lundmark
Sautner – Kuzmin

Milic

Notable:

With the Moose down a goal, C.J. Suess hits double digits in goals as he gets number 10 to tie the game for the Moose. Looks like it may have deflected up or he rifled it upstairs. Either way it was 1-1.

Carson Golder gets his second goal of the season to give the Moose a 2-1 lead. Nice pass by Dylan Anhorn in his second game as a pro. That’s his first point in the AHL.

The Moose gave Thomas Milic two periods. He made 22 saves on 23 shots and then they gave Brett Brochu the third period. He stopped all six shots he faced.

Oh boy Brad Lambert with his 21st goal of the season and it’s a beauty as he snipes this upstairs. The Jets prospect ends season with most points on Moose with 55 (21G 34A) in 64 games. He’s 2nd in AHL rookie points. He finishes 2nd on All-Time Moose Rookie points list.

There’s that Colby Barlow blast on the PP as the Jets prospect puts this one in off AJf who makes its 4-1 for Manitoba. Barlow finished with 1G 2A in three games played for the Moose.

Multi-point game:

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby 1G 1A

Up next:

The Moose have now concluded the 2023-24 regular season. They will take on these same Stars in a play-in series which is a best of three that gets underway on Tuesday with Game 1 at 7 PM CDT.
