After arresting their last big losing streak three games back the Moose coming into today’s New Year’s Eve game had lost their last two games including a 6-2 decision to these same Stars they would play to conclude 2024. The team promised indoor fireworks to conclude the game but would they bring that same explosiveness during the 60 minutes?
Lineup news:
The team was without captain Dominic Toninato who was recalled by the Jets. For the first time this season head coach Mark Morrison loaded up a line with Jets prospects including Chaz Lucius (2021 1st), Nikita Chibrikov (2021 2nd) and Brad Lambert (2022 1st).
Lines & D pairs:
Shaw– JAD – AJF
Lucius – Lambert – Chibrikov
Suess -Conley – Ford
Wagner -Zhilkin – Empey
Sautner – Lundmark
Anhorn – Barteaux
Kuzmin – Bauer
Milic
Notable:
The prospect line started to show some early signs of chemistry in the 1st even if they couldn’t create a goal. This continued later in the first period and throughout the game.
Arttu Hyry loves playing in Winnipeg as the Finn gets his fourth goal in two games this series. After a hat trick on Sunday he opens the scoring with this shot that he puts roof daddy.
Good puck pursuit by Brad Lambert who finishes it with a good check which results in a chance for Dmitry Kuzmin.
Two Moose defenders go to one guy which isn’t good when you’re shorthanded. The Stars make them pay as former Moose Kyle Capobianco finds Arttu Hyry who gets his second point of the game with the nice pass over to Matej Blumel who finishes it off. No chance for Thomas Milic.
And this sums up the season for the Moose which made it 3-0 for the Stars.
After that the Moose got some life. Maybe it was because they only needed one goal to win pancakes for the over 6500 fans in attendance. As Axel Jonsson-Fjällby said let the people have pancakes. He got the Moose on the board with his second of the season. Nice pass by Mason Shaw.
After getting one the Moose had new life and came close a few times on the power play to get within one. First it’s Brad Lambert, then Dmitry Kuzmin who hit Chaz Lucius with his shot and ended with Nikita Chibrikov hitting the post.
Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic with his best save of the game.
Despite some decent chances including Nikita Chibrikov hitting another post the Moose fell to the Stars by a final score of 3-1.
The slide hits three games for Manitoba as they fall to 7-19-0-1.
